December, 1975 marked the hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the National Academy of Desgin.  To celebrate that occasion the National Collection of Fine Arts, Smithsonian Institution in Washington arranged the exhibit, ''Academy, the Academic Tradition in American Art'', examining through art in historical detail the role played by the National Academy in the larger academic development in America from 1825 to the 1960's.  This book is  such a gem.  It has a list of all living and deceased Academicians as of Dec. 1975.
