Early Artists in Laguna Beach: The Impressionists
Janet Blake Dominik (Author)
When the decision was made to have an exhibition of Southern California Impressionism as one of the reopening exhibitions for the Laguna Art Museum, the exhibition was conceived as one which would be limited to the founding members of the museum. However, research revealed that of the original twenty-five exhibitors in that first show in July 1918, the work of many of the artists was either not available or did not merit inclusion. The scope of the exhibition was therefore changed to focus in a selected number of artists, considered Impressionists, who either exhibited with or were members of the Laguna Beach Art Association during the period from 1918 to 1928. The selection of artists was based on historical, critical, and aesthetic considerations.
